Diagnostic Medical Sonography - ATS (category B)

DESCRIPTION: The Salem Campus offers the Associate of Technical Study in Diagnostic Medical Sonography as a completion program for certified radiologic technologists and diagnostic medical sonographers who have finished their training at an accredited institution and have been certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Students interested in one of these programs should apply to the Salem Campus and meet with the director of radiologic technology for additional application details. Upon admission to these programs, students will be granted 32 credit hours on the basis of their certification. The Salem Campus also offers the Associate of Technical Study in the following:
  • Nuclear Medicine Technology 
  • Radiation Therapy Technology 
  • Radiologic Technology
  • Radiologic Technology with a concentration in Radiology Department Management
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
Radiologic technologists held about 196,000 jobs in 2006. More than 60 percent of all jobs were in hospitals. Most other jobs were in offices of physicians; medical and diagnostic laboratories, including diagnostic imaging centers; and outpatient care centers.

ADMISSION
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a registered radiologic technologist, nuclear medicine technologist or diagnostic medical sonographer prior to program start. Program applicants are encouraged to meet with an advisor at the Salem campuses to discuss the program requirements.
GRADUATION
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum 66-68 credit hours. Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and in major.

ACCREDITATION: The Salem Campus program is approved and accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, JRCERT. The Ashtabula Campus program is not JRCERT accredited, nor has it applied to the JRCERT for accredited status.
