* Doctoral students must complete additional approved electives, including research, to reach a minimum of 30 credit hours post-master's (or equivalent advanced degree) or a minimum of 60 credit hours post-bachelor's prior to enrolling in POL 81199 Dissertation I. Upon completion of course requirements and candidacy exams, doctoral students must register for POL 81199 Dissertation I for two semesters for a total of 30 credit hours, and thereafter POL 81299 Dissertation II, until all requirements for the degree have been met.
** This requirement may be satisfied by demonstrating mastery of a foreign language or by successfully completing a graduate-level course in any discipline (including qualitative methods, quantitative methods or other methodological skills) pertaining to the student's proposed dissertation research. See the department's Graduate Studies Handbook for details.
*** Needed for post-bachelor's students to reach a minimum of 90 credit hours total.
