Description

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing provides a general approach that can be applied in a wide range of areas of business (e.g., for profit, nonprofit, service and manufacturing). It offers breadth of knowledge, choice of courses and flexibilty in scheduling. The Marketing major can be completed with 24 credit hours made up of 15 hours of required courses  and 9 hours to be selected by the student from the list provided. This program addresses the breadth within the marketing field through courses (e.g., consumer behavior, marketing research, international marketing, personal selling, advertising and promotion management) that provide the student with an appreciation of all central topic areas in the field. Accordingly, the program gives students a generalist’s perspective and working knowledge of the theory and practice of marketing. Students learn the tasks involved in the analysis, planning, implementation and control of marketing programs that result in strategies and tactics used by businesses to sell products to consumers and other businesses. Typically, a traditional lecture format is used by instructors in this program.

Combined Baccalaureate/Master's Program in the College of Business Administration and Graduate School of Management: Students must have earned 90 semesters hours to apply for the Combined Baccalaureate/Master's Program in the College of Business Administration. In addition, they must meet the GPA requirement of 3.30 after 90 semester hours
  

Career Opportunities

The breadth of the Marketing major opens a wide range of career choices to students including marketing management, brand management, advertising and promotion management, personal selling, public relations, starting a business as an entrepreneur and many other exciting opportunities.
 

Admission Requirements

General Admissions for Freshman Students: Admission Requirements at the Kent Campus: The freshman admission policy at the Kent Campus is selective. Admission decisions are based upon the following: overall grade point average, ACT and/or SAT scores, strength of high school college preparatory curriculum and grade trends.

The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students who graduated from high school three or more years ago. Transfer Student: An overall GPA of at least 2.50 (2.25 for economics and entrepreneurship) is required for admission into the College of Business Administration. Students who have previously attended Kent State and have completed (or the equivalent of) COMM 15000, ENG 21011, MATH 11010 and MKTG 25010 must have earned a minimum C (2.00) grade.

Progression Requirements

Progression in the major: Minimum 2.500 overall GPA, minimum C (2.000) grade in COMM 15000, ENG 21011, MATH 11010 and MKTG 25010.

 

Graduation Requirements

Minimum 120 total credit hours  and  39 upper-division hours for graduation. Minimum 2.500 GPA overall and 2.500 GPA in major required for graduation. Minimum C (2.000) grade in COMM 15000, ENG 21011, MATH 11010 (or placement out of MATH 11010), MKTG 25010.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to make strategic decisions from a marketing perspective.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to conduct financial analyses appropriate for marketing managers. 
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of segmentation, target marketing and positioning. 
  4. Make effective sales presentations and close sales. 
  5. Demonstrate the ability to analyze markets and competitors. 
  6. Exercise skills in analytical thinking, written and oral communication, data collection and analysis, basic financial analysis, ethical decision making and computer applications.

Graduates of all Bachelor of Business Administration programs will be able to:
