College of Arts and Sciences
105 Bowman Hall Description
The College of Arts and Sciences offers programs for students who wish to pursue professional careers in medically-related fields. These pre-medical programs are designed to provide a sound basis in biology and chemistry, along with coursework in physics and mathematics. The pre-medicine/pre-osteopathy, pre-veterinary medicine, pre-dentistry and pre-pharmacy programs are intended to prepare students for advanced, professional study in the medical sciences. These programs meet the coursework requirements for admission to most medical schools. Students who wish to pursue a pre-medical program would be well advised, however, to check carefully the admissions requirements of the professional schools they wish to enter. Students also should seek advice regularly from their faculty advisors. Admission requirements differ among dental schools. Pre-Dentistry, a pre-professional advising program, provides students with an opportunity to prepare for further dental school training after completing their undergraduate degree. Students take courses to prepare for the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) and coursework in dental school. In addition to declaring this program, students must be admitted to a bachelor's degree program in the College of Arts and Sciences. Students who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry, which have their own pre-dentistry concentration, should not declare this program. Admission Requirements
General Admissions for Freshman Students: Admission Requirements at the Kent Campus: The freshman admission policy at the Kent Campus is selective. Admission decisions are based upon the following: cumulative grade point average, ACT and/or SAT scores, strength of high school college preparatory curriculum and grade trends. The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students who graduated from high school three or more years ago. For more information on admissions, visit the admissions website for new freshmen. For more information about admission criteria for transfer, transitioning and former students, please visit the admissions website. Graduation Requirements
Students should consult with a faculty pre-dentistry advisor each semester for assistance in choosing classes, the appropriate sequencing of classes, and to ensure entrance requirements for selected dental schools are being met. |
