The Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Park and Tourism Management is designed to provide students with an academic foundation and field experiences in preparation for the recreation, park and tourism professions.

Students can select from one of three concentrations: park management, recreation management and tourism management.

The park management concentration focuses on providing opportunities for outdoor recreation and protecting the natural, cultural and historic resources on which those opportunities depend.

The recreation management concentration focuses on recreation and leisure services in public, commercial, campus, community and outdoor settings.

The tourism management concentration focuses on services and entrepreneurship in tourism industries and sustainable destination development.

Professionals in the recreation, parks and tourism industry held about 740,000 jobs in 2010. Jobs were held in areas such as national and regional parks, tour destinations, theme parks, public park and recreation agencies, private non-profit organizations such as Y.M.C.A.s, country clubs and college campuses. The majority of positions, about 380,000,  were in the tourism industry. (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics)

Employment is expected to grow at or above the average for all occupations, depending on the chosen concentration area, between 2010-2020.
 

General Admissions for Freshman Students: Admission Requirements at the Kent Campus: The freshman admission policy at the Kent Campus is selective. Admission decisions are based upon the following: cumulative grade point average, ACT and/or SAT scores, strength of high school college preparatory curriculum and grade trends.

The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students who graduated from high school three or more years ago. General Admissions for Transfer Students: Generally, a transfer applicant who has taken 12 or more semester hours with a college cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale may be admitted. An applicant who has taken fewer than 12 semester hours will be evaluated on both collegiate and high school records. Minimum 120 credit hours, minimum 39 upper-division credit hours. Minimum 2.250 major and 2.000 cumulative GPA.
