Description

The Master of Education in School Counseling consists of two concentrations: Classroom Guidance for Teachers  and Professional School Counseling.

The mission, intent and purpose of the School Counseling program at Kent State University is to prepare students for employment as professional school counselors in K-12 institutions.

Admission Requirements

Official transcript(s), goal statement, two letters of recommendation, Questions in Anticipation of Licensure form and interview.

Graduation Requirements

The M.Ed. degree curriculum is a minimum of 49 semester hours, including a 600 clock-hour internship. A pre-practicum examination and comprehensive examination must be passed for matriculation and graduation. This program is designed to fulfill the educational requirements for licensure as a Licensed School Counselor in the state of Ohio. The program may be pursued on a part-time or full-time basis, although some full-time study is urged.

Licensure Requirement (not required for graduation):
Candidates seeking Ohio licensure are required to pass specific assessments in order to apply for licensure. Students should consult their advisors for specific program requirements and refer to the Ohio Department of Education-Educator Preparation website for more information on assessments specific to licensure type.
