The "National Standards for Sport Coaches," published by the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE America), serves as the guiding basis for the proposed program of study. SHAPE America identifies coaching competencies organized into "standards," which are placed within 8 domains. These domains are:

• Philosophy and Ethics
• Safety and Injury Prevention
• Physical Conditioning
• Growth and Development
• Teaching and Communication
• Sport Skills and Tactics
• Organization and Administration
• Evaluation

Courses and experiences representing each of the 8 NASPE Coaching Standards domains have been identified. Students must also get American Red Cross 1st Aid and CPR certification to successfully complete the minor. An internship completes the minor as a capstone experience

Graduation Requirements: Minimum 2.250 GPA in the minor required for graduation. Valid external certification in First Aid and CPR required for minor.
