The intention and emphasis of the visual communication design degree programs is the preparation of students for the graphic design and illustration professions; specifically, to develop technical proficiency, aesthetic sensibility and design expertise in the organization of imagery and typography to communicate information in two-dimensional form by graphics for print, video and interactive electronic multimedia, and in three-dimensional form through packaging, exhibition and environmental graphics. Career Opportunities
Graphic Designers held about 279,200 jobs in 2010. Most worked in specialized design services; advertising and related services; printing and related support activities; or newspaper, periodical, book and directory publishers. A small number of designers produced computer graphics for computer systems design firms. Some designers do freelance work—full time or part time—in addition to holding a salaried job in design or another occupation. Admission Requirements

The Bachelor of Arts Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates of this program will be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the ethics (and legal issues) closely associated with fields of visual communication. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of traditional hands-on skills relative to craftsmanship. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the basic use of digital technologies as they relate to their areas of study. 3. Demonstrate an ability to create and develop visual response to communication problems, including understanding of hierarchy, typography, aesthetics, composition and construction of meaningful images.
