DESCRIPTION: The Bachelor of Arts in Latin prepares students to read and interpret ancient Latin texts at a high level. By the end of Intermediate Latin I, students are reading unmodified ancient Latin texts in both prose and poetry from a wide range of genres. Latin authors that are the subject of upper-division courses include Cicero, Vergil, Ovid, Tacitus, Caesar and Plautus. Students also take culture courses taught in English to gain a better understanding of the world in which the texts were written. Regularly offered culture courses include mythology, civilization and colloquia covering such thematic topics as violence, gender and sexuality and ancient Christianities. Latin majors are also required to take courses on Roman history and English vocabulary from the classical languages. 
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
 A major in Latin is required in the state of Ohio for licensure to teach Latin in the secondary schools. A Latin major combined with the Greek minor is also excellent preparation for graduate study in Classics or Archaeology. The study of Latin develops effective communication and cognitive skills, and graduates with degrees in Latin score higher than other disciplines on the GRE, making Latin a good choice for students who wish to pursue careers in law and related fields. Graduates with a a Latin degree have gone on to careers in law, higher education, business, nonprofits, and politics.
ADMISSION
REQUIREMENTS:
 General Admissions for Freshman Students: Students most likely to be admitted and succeed at the Kent Campus are those who have graduated with at least 16 units of the recommended college preparatory curriculum in high school, who have achieved a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and whose composite ACT score is 21 or better (980 combined critical reading and math SAT score). General Admissions for Transfer Students: Generally, a transfer applicant who has taken 12 or more semester hours with a college cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale may be admitted. An applicant who has taken fewer than 12 semester hours will be evaluated on both collegiate and high school records. GRADUATION
REQUIREMENTS:
 Minimum 121 total credit hours  and  42 upper-division hours for graduation. Minimum 2.00 GPA overall and 2.00 GPA in major required for graduation.
