Description

The Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology is offered at the Ashtabula and Salem campuses. Radiologic technologists perform diagnostic imaging procedures applying knowledge of anatomy, pathology, positioning, patient care, equipment, radiation protection and imaging techniques. With the successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to take the certification examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

The Associate of Technical Study degree in Radiologic Technology offers a completion program to graduates of certificate programs in radiologic technology. Kent State University awards 32 credits for the hospital-based program and ARRT certification. Students then complete 34 credit hours in prescribed general studies courses. These courses may be applied toward the Bachelor of Radiologic and Imaging Sciences degree in computed tomography, diagnostic medical sonography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine (admission suspended) or radiation therapy at Kent State University's Salem Campus.

The A.T.S. degree in Radiology Department Mangement Technology offers a completion program to graduates of certificate programs in radiologic technology. Kent State University awards 30 credits for the hospital based program and ARRT certification. Students then complete business and general courses. These courses may be applied toward a bachelor degree in business management at Kent State University.

Students interested in the A.A.S. degree should apply to the Ashtabula or Salem Campus and meet with the director of radiologic technology for additional application details. Students interested in the A.T.S. degree should meet with the program director at the Salem Campus.

Career Opportunities

Radiologic technologists held about 216,000 jobs in 2010. More than 60 percent of all jobs were in hospitals. Most other jobs were in offices of physicians; diagnostic imaging centers; and outpatient care centers. (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics)
