DESCRIPTION:	The Interior Design program focuses on human needs that can be fulfilled by the design of one's surroundings. This program teaches interior designers to identify, research and creatively solve problems relativction and quality of one's near environment. Competencies achieved in the program include fundamental design; design analysis; space planning and programming; and the design of all interior spaces, with an understanding of health, safety and welfare of the public as they relate to all aspects of environmental design.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:	Interior designers held about 72,000 jobs in 2006. Approximately 26 percent were self-employed. About 26 percent of interior designers worked in specialized design services. The rest of the interior designers provided design services in architectural and landscape architectural services, furniture and home-furnishing stores, building material and supplies dealers, and residential building construction companies. Many interior designers also performed freelance work in addition to holding a salaried job in interior design or another occupation. (Source: Bureau of Labor Statistics)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:	Direct admission to the Interior Design program is based on a combination of high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores. There are open admissions to this program, but early application is advised. Students are admitted to interior design based on a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) AND a minimum ACT composite score of 22 (1020 SAT combined critical reading and math score). General Admissions for New Freshmen: Students most likely to be admitted and succeed at the Kent Campus are those who have graduated with at least 16 units of the recommended college preparatory curriculum in high school, who have achieved a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), and whose composite ACT score is 22 or better (980 combined critical reading and math SAT score). General Admissions for Transfer Students: Generally, a transfer applicant who has taken 12 or more semester hours with a college cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale may be admitted. An applicant who has taken fewer than 12 semester hours will be evaluated on both collegiate and high school records. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:	Minimum 130 credit hours, including all required coursework. Minimum 39 upper-division credit hours. Minimum 2.50 GPA in major, including interior design, art, architecture, visual communication design and technology courses. Minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA.
STUDY ABROAD/AWAY OPPORTUNITIES:	The college offers full-semester programs abroad for qualified third-year Interior Design students. The study abroad program is housed in the 13th-century Palazzo dei Cerchi, located in the heart of historic Florence, Italy. The program is open to all students who have made satisfactory progress toward completion of their undergraduate program.
