Requirements for Advancement to Third Year—Professional Level
Advancement review for the Bachelor of Science in Architecture occurs at the end of the second year. Upon completion of 60 semester hours, students are required to contact the Office of Advising and Academic Services in Taylor Hall to obtain a requirement sheet bearing a current evaluation of all progress toward completion of the students’ chosen degree program. Requirement evaluations are not a substitute for meeting with a faculty advisor. To advance, students must accomplish the following:
- Comply with all specific course prerequisites.
- Complete the following courses:
ARCH 10101, 10102, 10111, 20101, 20102, 20112,20113, 20201, 20301, 20601, 20602
ARTH 22006
MATH 12002 (or MATH 12011 and 12012)
PHY 13001, 13012, 13021
- Earn a minimum 2.25 GPA in architecture courses.
- Earn minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA.
Notes:
- Architecture majors may not use the following courses to satisfy the architectural elective requirement:
- ARCH 10001 Understanding Architecture
- ARCH 10011 Survey of Architectural History I
- ARCH 10012 Survey of Architectural History II
- Architecture majors may not use the following course combinations for credit toward fulfilling the Kent Core Basic Sciences category:
- PHY 11660 and the CHEM 10050 series, the CHEM 10060 series and/or the PHY 13001 series
- Both the CHEM 10050 series and the CHEM 10060 series
- Both the PHY 13001 series and the PHY 23101 series
- No more than 4 credit hours of PEB activities courses may apply to required semester hours for graduation.
- No more than the first 16 credit hours of ROTC courses may apply to required semester hours for graduation. Veterans who have completed a minimum one year of active duty may receive PEB credit for military basic training according to branch of service, as follows:
- Army and Marine Corps: 3 credit hours
- Navy and Coast Guard: 2 credit hours
- Air Force: 1 credit hour
