Requirements for Advancement to Third Year—Professional Level
Advancement review for the Bachelor of Science in Architecture occurs at the end of the second year. Upon completion of 60 semester hours, students are required to contact the Office of Advising and Academic Services in Taylor Hall to obtain a requirement sheet bearing a current evaluation of all progress toward completion of the students’ chosen degree program. Requirement evaluations are not a substitute for meeting with a faculty advisor. To advance, students must accomplish the following:
- Comply with all specific course prerequisites.
- Complete the following courses:
ARCH 10101, 10102, 10111, 20101, 20102, 20112,20113, 20201, 20301, 20601, 20602
MATH 12002 (or MATH 12011 and 12012)
PHY 13001, 13012, 13021 - Earn a minimum 2.25 GPA in architecture courses.
- Earn minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA.
Notes:
- Architecture majors may not use the following courses to satisfy the architectural elective requirement:
- ARCH 10001 Understanding Architecture
- ARCH 10011 Survey of Architectural History I
- ARCH 10012 Survey of Architectural History II
- No more than 4 credit hours of PEB activities courses may apply to required semester hours for graduation.
- No more than the first 16 credit hours of ROTC courses may apply to required semester hours for graduation. Veterans who have completed a minimum one year of active duty may receive PEB credit for military basic training according to branch of service, as follows:
- Army and Marine Corps: 3 credit hours
- Navy and Coast Guard: 2 credit hours
- Air Force: 1 credit hour
Special Major Note:
Students who pass 15 credits of non-remedial academic coursework each fall and spring semester and the 1-credit First Year Experience course will accumulate 121 credits in four years. This major requires 131 credits for graduation. Students can stay on track for graduation by:
- Declaring their major as freshmen and completing all courses in sequence (bear in mind that switching majors may cause a delay in graduation);
- Prioritizing required courses above electives;
- Meeting regularly with their academic advisors to stay on track;
- Passing each required course the first time attempted and maintaining the minimal GPA for the major;
- Successfully completing more than 15 credit hours of relevant coursework (field-based work, internship) during academic semesters; and/or
- Completing relevant coursework (field-based work, internship) during summer sessions.
