Associate of Arts

The Associate of Arts degree may be used for several purposes: it may serve as freshman- and sophomore-year program for students who are planning to complete a bachelor's degree program; it may serve as a degree unto itself for students who want to obtain a general education by sampling a variety of different subject areas; it may advance students' careers or provide job retraining; and it provides opportunities for intellectual growth and personal satisfaction.

The Associate of Arts degree includes both required courses and electives. The required courses are to be selected from the university's LER course list. Electives should be chosen in the students' area of interest. Students planning to pursue a bachelor's degree should select electives to meet the requirements of the degree they are pursuing.

Because of the general nature of the programs, students may achieve emphasis in areas that will meet specific educational needs by taking a concentration of six courses in a particular field of study. However, students should consult with their advisors in the selection of their courses prior to the beginning of each semester.

This degree is offered at each of the seven Regional Campuses.
