Soviet and East European Studies Major

The Soviet and East European Studies program provides students with a strong understanding of the politics, history, geography and languages of the countries of the former Soviet Union (including the Baltic, Caucasus and Central Asian states) and Eastern Europe. The major introduces the student to the region's domestic politics, its foreign policy, and to the history that shaped its political, economic and social structures. Attention is also paid to geography, environment and the region's cultures. Students in the program are required to learn a language from the region. The major will help prepare the student for work in NGOs and government agencies and for graduate studies in the field.
