German Translation—2009-2010 Roadmap [Degree Requirements]

GPS

The Bachelor of Science in German Translation is a preprofessional degree designed to for students  to develop the skills needed to become working translators. The program also introduces the rudiments of translation theory as it applies to the actual practice of translation. While meeting requirements designed to ensure competence in German, translation majors take five core courses in translation during the junior and senior years. The major features a 39-hour subject area specialty requirement, which enables students to acquire a level of expertise in a specific field in which they can specialize as translators. Translation majors are strongly encouraged to undertake study in a country where German is spoken.

Students interested in declaring the B.S. in German Translation should contact the Department of Modern and Classical Language Studies, where advising is mandatory.
