* FR 13201, 13202, 23201 and 23202 (Elementary and Intermediate French series of courses) are not part of the French major. If a student has previously gained proficiency to bypass these courses, they should do so, and  begin with the first courses in the major, FR 33211 and 33212. Students with previous French study should take the French Placement Test and enroll in the correct course(s) based on their score. Students who have completed three or four years of high school French should see a French major advisor for placement, as the French Placement Test is not always a reliable tool for placement, especially for those students who have had taken a considerable amount of French. Students with sufficient French to place into higher semesters are not permitted to take Elementary French I (FR 13201).

** One course must be earned with minimum C grade to fulfill writing-intensive requirement.
